Built from the log up.
Hardwood furniture, custom commissions, and live-edge slabs — milled, joined, and finished on a small Kansas farm.
At Briar Patch Trades, we mill our own walnut, oak, maple, hickory, pecan, locust, and cedar — then we build slowly, with the kind of care that asks the work to outlast us.
The Briar Patch Adirondack.
Our signature chair is not the flat-back Adirondack you've seen a thousand times. We've shaped a contoured, curved high back — slatted, sculpted, and joined the old way — that holds the body the way a good chair should: at ease, for hours.
Built in southern yellow pine, cedar, white oak, or walnut. Made to be sat in for a generation of Kansas summers.

We start at the tree.
Most woodworkers buy their lumber. We make ours. Every chair, every slab, every cutting board starts as a tree we knew — felled, milled, stickered, and dried on the same Kansas farm where it's built.
It means the wood in every piece has a story we can tell you — what county it grew in, what year we milled it, how long it dried. It also means we sell live-edge slabs to other makers who want the same thing.

- Walnut, oak, maple, hickory, pecan, locust, cedar

Eastern red cedar, fresh off the mill — destined for benches, mantels, and the hands of fellow makers.
For the kitchen, the table, the gift.
Cutting boards, charcuterie boards, live-edge serving pieces, centerpieces, and small home goods — all built from the same hardwood we mill ourselves, finished to last.
We also engrave. A name. A wedding date. A scripture verse. The thing that turns an everyday board into something kept on the shelf and brought down for the people who matter.

Pieces that don't fit a catalog.
Beyond the standard work, we take commissions for one-of-a-kind pieces — fine furniture, custom inlay, hand-turned bowls, engraved heirlooms, state silhouettes, and whatever else someone has in mind. Some are pictured here. Most are now in someone's home, on someone's wall, or being passed down.

If you have a piece in mind, we'd like to hear about it.
